Stayer Carbon x 700c DISC road wheel set builder
Our carbon disc brake road wheels! - or at least a few great build options we recommend.
Our disc brake tubeless friendly road rims come in a few different depths: from 25mm rims for climbing, 38 or 50mm for the ideal all-round setup up to 60 and even 86mm for the optimal racing setup! I'm more than happy to make a recommendation according to your weight and use, just get in touch.
Built up with the finest, lightest and most aero bladed spokes : Sapim CX-Rays.
On Bitex, Hope RS4, DT 350 or DT 240 centerlock disc hubs!
STAYER RIMS, disc-brake.
Toray T700&T800 carbon fiber rims. They are lovely, wide rims with a very aero toroidal shape - great for handling in crosswinds and speed. The 18mm internal, 25mm external width allows for a 25 or 28mm tyre to sit with a nicely rounded profile - minimising rolling resistance while giving better control in cornering and a more comfortable ride!
For road use our rims are available in 25 (lightweight climbing), 38, 50, 60 and 86mm depths, tubeless friendly or tubular. We also do gravel, CX and MTB rims though so don't feel restricted
These rims have really been put through their paces and nothing is better than having a cyclocross rider test out your gear for strength! - among many others our rider Joe Peake did just that last season and won the Central Cyclocross League 2017/18 on his 38mm tubular disc wheels. He had just the one set and they've bunny hopped and crashed out over and over and they'll be doing it again next season - not a mark on them!
The best hubs in their price category with quality sealed bearings, an anti-bite insert on the Sram/Shimano freehub body, lots of models (centerlock/6-bolt/rim brake, SRAM XD/Shimano/ Campagnolo, straight-pull/j-bend, QR/thru-axle...etc!), durable and reliable design with wide flange spacing for a good strong spoke bracing angle, 6-pawl 48point engagement on their road hubs, and they're very lightweight.
They might not be the most exciting to look at but they are incredible value hubs.
* If you opt for Pillar spokes it will be on BX106 hubs, J-bend. The CX-Ray build will be with the lighter BX312 straight-pull hubs, but if you would prefer J-bend CX-Rays on BX106 hubs that perfectly fine as well, just let me know!
Hope RS4/PRO4 Hubs
Hope hubs are made in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, they are beautifully engineered, durable and versatile. Hope as a company are very approachable with excellent customer service - not that much ever goes wrong with their hubs in my experience but it's something pretty rare with hub manufacturers and a great asset.
DT Swiss Hubs - DT350 and DT240
Both sets are top value performance hubs - a durable but lightweight design with a unique patented star ratchet system for perfect transmission of power. Fully press-fit makes servicing and axle conversion quick and simple. Quality bearings that last incredibly well (really, it's incredible! Best bearings out there). That Swiss Engineering honestly is perfection.
The main difference between these two hub sets is that the DT240 has had extra machining for weight saving, and it comes with the full end cap array.
