Judith's adventure bike prototype
I made this bike for Judith for bike packing, long off road tours carrying camping equipment and sitting on for long periods of time. It is based around 650b wheels and clearance for 2.2” tyres and a Jones (or similar) flat or swept back bar setup. The frame is mostly Columbus Zona tubes which are light and strong and the fork is the last of the old style Columbus Unicrown tigged to a Paragon Machine Works tapered steel steerer. The 44mm head tube as well as taking the steel fork will also mount a Lauf or short travel suspension fork for other riding where carrying points aren't as necessary and maybe a bit more boing is required.
John from Mac Workshop made a super nice custom roll top frame bag for Judith to carry the essentials, tent poles along the top tube ect, and as Judith tends to ride with water on her back for these type of rides there wasn't an issue with taking up frame space with where a bottle would usually go. The anything mounts on the fork and BB bottle cage mount also give space for further water if needed.
The frame design was fairly straightforward for this type of bike. Not too slack but comfortable and long enough to be stable riding consistently on uneven ground.
The components are a mix with a very beautiful set of Ingrid Components cranks, Jones Bar and Paul levers and Klampers. The gearing is Shimano with a massive dinner plate of a cassette and the dropper post is an X Fusion 27.2 external routing which all tucks along the top tube and under the roll top of the bag.
The wheels are super mint Stayer 650b adventure rims on DT 350 hubs (and last but not least the bar tape is a very wonderful custom dyed and perforated leather by Hannah at The Grafton Saddler.
