Jan's session road bike
Jan got his bike for his 70th birthday. He wanted something made to measure that would allow him to stay in the saddle for longer rides with his club, train on the local routes but most specifically continue to develop his cycling as part of his regular fitness routine.
I wanted to make Jan a bike that would be comfortable and prioritised his position but also made full and efficient use of his power as he is a seasoned strong cyclist. I made the frame out of a mix of Columbus Max and Spirit with the thought of making the tubing work for Jan as much as possible. As well as being light and strong the big Max chainstays and flipped Max seatstays make the rear triangle stiff side to side, pushing the majority of his efforts back to the rear wheel, while also giving some vertical compliance, dampening road vibrations and making longer rides more comfortable and therefore more frequent. This build we combined with a Stayer carbon wheelset which is light and stiff and with its toroidal shape great in sidewinds, which is essential for cycling anywhere in the flatlands.
Jan rides his Stayer 200 to 400km a week in Belgium, predominantly in the area between Antwerp and Brussels.
