Ian Walker was the first finisher of the North Cape 4000 (4300km!), from Arco, Italy, to Nordkapp, the most northern tip of Norway. In 11 days! – on his 50/50mm Stayer Road disc wheel set.
Which is just incredible.
It was amazing to follow his dot and to see this snippet of the very end of the ride.
Ian went on to brake the world record for cycling between the northernmost and southernmost points of Europe the following year.
Again, on his Stayer Road Disc wheelset, but this time with a new SON Delux dynamo hub front wheel 🙂
He rode 6,367 km in 16 days, 20 hours and 59 minutes – an average of 377 km per day to take the official Guinness World Record.
Although the Guinness record conditions don’t distinguish supported and unsupported attempts, Ian did the whole thing unsupported. Which was probably the longest Audax ride ever recorded.
